The furriers and fur technicians at the Workshop of Saga Furs Design Centre have had more than their hands full lately. They have been busy preparing pieces for international designers who will show the items at various fashion weeks.
Saga Furs Design Centre is preparing the pieces for designers the company supports. “The designers visit us once or twice and we discuss their ideas or sketches and find the best solution in terms of techniques and the right type of fur to use. Then we have to realize it”, says Per Reinkilde Saga Furs product Development Manager.
Every year in the run-up to the fashion weeks season, the Workshop is a flurry of activity as the staff prepares fashion items for designers. “Activities like these are all part of Saga Furs’ strategy. Designers want to use fur, but they often don’t know where to turn. We are able to support designers and facilitate their putting fur into collections. It’s a perfect win-win situation, plus we get to see a constant flow of innovative ideas,” says Saga Furs creative director Dorte Lenau Klint.
The pieces that will appear on runways in the upcoming fashion weeks could be called prototypes. “If one of the items is a hit and the designer wants to put it into production, Saga Furs can step in to find the right partners,” Reinkilde says.
Saga Furs frequently acts as the matchmaker between the fur industry and fashion creators big and small. “Often the designers we work with, especially at the start of a cooperation, have no clue about where to source materials and services,” says Klint. “We have a network of trusted partners, so we can recommend to designers where they can get the type of furs they need, and help them find the furriers who can produce for them.”
