Finnish fur farmers’ statement questioning opponents’ motives and bringing out facts about the trade will be published in several newspapers during a period of two weeks. Animal welfare, the producer’s main priority, is of no interest to the so-called animal activists, the advertorial says.
The opponents aim to ban the entire farm animal industry and products of animal origin, such as meat, milk, wool socks and leather shoes. They pursue their goal by distorting the truth. The only way Finnish fur farmers can defend themselves and their families is by providing the utmost care for their animals and relying on other Finns to support their rights.
The advertorial is signed by “Finnish fur breeders” and it is a joint statement of the entire industry. The advertorial has been paid by the Finnish Fur Breeders’ Association and Finnish Fur Sales.
The fur industry employs directly and indirectly 22,000 Finns, and the value of the production, which is all exported, amounts to EUR 200 million. The certification of fur farms in Finland, started by producers in collaboration with stakeholders in 2005, is a unique process in the world and already half of the Finnish production of over 4 million fur skins comes from certified farms. Fur is a long-lasting, ecologically sustainable product that international fashion favours and that can be refashioned to one’s liking when the trends change.
