Finnish Fur Sales (Turkistuottajat Oyj) is surprised at the material released by the Oikeutta Eläimille organisation, which does not present the right picture of the fur industry in Finland. The industry’s long-term efforts have resulted in improvements in animal welfare, and violations are not tolerated.
To be on the safe side, last year, the auction company launched an action programme aimed at dealing with any fur farms shown or suspected of violations of animal welfare or environmental protection regulations. The action programme will now be implemented on all those farms on which the Oikeutta Eläimille organisation released photos.
In compliance with the action programme, representatives of the industry will immediately inspect the fur farms revealed. If any animal welfare violations are found on the farms, the owners are given a short time to rectify them. Upon the termination of the stipulated time, the farm concerned will be inspected together with the public municipal veterinarian. If the violations are not rectified, Finnish Fur Sales will discontinue any financing to the farm and will not accept any pelts from the farm to be sold at auctions.
